Traverse the Vallee Blanche

Experience one of the most breathtaking treks in the world on the iconic Vallee Blanche

Traverse the Vallee Blanche on a glacier hike in Chamonix Mont BlancThe Vallee Blanche traverse is one of the most spectacular glacier walks in the Alps, starting from the summit of the Aiguille du Midi at 3842m above sea level.

It is a relatively easy high altitude trek involving approximately 600m of descent and 200m of ascent, which takes you through the spectacular glaciated terrain of the Glacier de Geant over to Pointe Helbronner on the Italian side of Mont Blanc.

You will be surrounded by towering alpine peaks, glistening seracs and icy blue crevasses - which you will get to see again from above as you take the Helbronner cable car back across the Vallee Blanche to the Aiguille du Midi!

You will be accompanied the whole time by one of our highly qualified and experienced UIAGM mountain guides, who will not only lead you but will also share with you their expert knowledge on the area, making this a unique and unforgettable experience.

Stunning views of the Chamonix valley and the majestic Mont Blanc provide incredible photo opportunities! This is a great outing suitable for both experienced alpinists and novices alike, as no previous experience of mountaineering or glacier travel is necessary.

A short drive of about 30 minutes takes us through the Mont Blanc tunnel to the little village of La Palud in Italy. From here we board the Skyway Mont Blanc cable car up to Pointe Helbronner at an altitude of 3462m.

Your group will be split into groups of 4 people per guide and roped up. Your guide will make sure you are all properly equipped and will demonstrate to you the correct techniques for walking in crampons and using your ice axes. This hike is a marvellous introduction to basic alpine skills.

Walking roped together encourages respect for the speed and rythym of your colleagues, with each person adapting to the level of the group, and offers an excellent opportunity to develop solidarity, cohesion and cooperation.

Level Requirements

This glacier trek is suitable for beginners in glacier travel and high mountain climbing. This is a good opportunity to learn alpine skills such as basic rope work and crampon techniques, all of which will be demonstrated to you by your guide.

You do not need to be extremely fit to complete this hike but please note that it is a full day and you will need to have a reasonable level of fitness to cope not just with the hike but also with the effects of high altitude, which can cause fatigue and dizziness.
